A Day at a Wisconsin Sunflower Field

Life |

I have this very fond memory of when I was a little girl riding with my dad in our old station wagon. We were headed down a lonely country road full of fields, farms, and crops. Back in the ’90s most of southeastern Wisconsin was still very stereotypical midwest, lots of farmland and factories. I’m not sure where we were going, but I knew as long as I was with my dad, it would be an adventure!

Suddenly, my dad pulled to the side of the road and pointed to a sight my eyes had never seen before, a stunning field of sunflowers. Rows and rows of big beautiful sunflowers! I remember the flowers towering over my head. I must have been about six years old but this memory is so clear to me, it’s as though it happened yesterday. Ever since that day, sunflowers have been my favorite flowers.

About 24 years later, I got to relive that childhood memory. This weekend my husband and I visited the Oak Rest Sunflower field in Burlington, Wisconsin. A true treasure featuring rows of beautiful golden sunflowers. The family owned field is located at 6138 Pine St. Burlington, Wisconsin. The owners greet you with big warm smiles and are very friendly to photographers! It’s $5 per person to enjoy the field and you get to cut your own bouquet of beautiful sunflowers for only $1 a stem!

I had so much fun photographing the field and gathering content for my blog. Most importantly, I was brought back to that memory of a child, when I first fell in love with the beauty of sunflower fields. If you are in the Burlington area within the next week or so, stop in and visit the Oak Rest Farms sunflower field!

  1. This looks absolutely lovely! We have some lavender fields near us and I would love to travel to Provance to see the fields there. Something so calming with nature and flowers.

  2. Wow that looks like a gorgeous place! I love the overall summery look of your outfit with the sunflowers. You seem to blend in so well. This is just what I needed on this cold wet rainy day in London.
